Tanya holds a Master of Social Work degree and is a Certified Play Therapist with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy. She holds a Certificate in Early Childhood Education, as well as being a Registered Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator. Tanya is the author of the children’s book The Helping Rock.

Tanya’s education and training have focused on attachment-based models for supporting children and caregivers including Theraplay and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. She is an EMDR therapist. Tanya has extensive training and experience in supporting individuals who have experienced trauma, including individuals who have spent their lives locally, as well as those who are newcomers. Tanya is committed to ongoing learning about diversity, equity, inclusion and reconciliation. She seeks to provide a welcoming environment for all.

Over the past 20 years, Tanya has worked in community agency settings and child care centres providing therapy as well as behavioural and developmental supports to children and their caregivers. She specializes in helping parents and caregivers learn how to support their children, and to learn more about themselves in the process. She also specializes in supporting children with big feelings/challenging behaviours, anxiety, neurodiversity, trauma and loss. Tanya also sees adults for individual counselling, especially adults wishing to explore their role as a parent.

Tanya uses play, art, books and storytelling, games, sensory strategies, sand tray and conversation to help children gain confidence in their own strengths, and be open to new growth. She then provides a bridge to strengthen the child’s relationship with their caregivers. Tanya uses attachment-based strategies, trauma-informed approaches and a strengths-base with all the individuals she works with.

Tanya believes in the power of having compassion for ourselves and others, of being aware of our own way of being in the world, and of learning how to have meaningful relationships in the different roles we hold. She feels honoured to be in the role of helping individuals to gain self-awareness and confidence, so each of us can take our place in the world, and shine our light!
